The Oceanfront branch of the Virginia Beach Public Library (VBPL) will close for renovations starting Saturday, June 26 at 5 p.m. Customers with items on hold can pick them up at the Great Neck Area Library at 1251 Bayne Drive, starting Monday, June 28 at 10 a.m. During the shutdown, customers can visit any other VBPL branch for in-person services and programs and also download items from the VBPL digital library.

Scheduled to take around five months, the renovations include new front doors, new help desk, updated lobby, public washrooms and teen space, updated meeting and study rooms. , an expanded children’s area, a new multipurpose programming area, new computer workstations and new furniture and rugs.

The Oceanfront Area Library renovation is part of the second phase of the VBPL’s $ 5.8 million Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to renovate eight of the 10 locations. All libraries except Wahab Public Law Library (updated 2018) and TCC / City Common Use Library (built 2013) have been or will be updated. Updates have been made to Princess Anne, Bayside, Kempsville and Central Libraries in 2019, and Pungo-Blackwater in 2020. Renovations to the Great Neck branch are expected to begin later in 2021.
