HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – The 4th of July is approaching and communities across Hampton Roads and Northeastern North Carolina are ready to celebrate with various events and fireworks!

Here’s an events guide to help you find something fun to do near you…


Celebrate Freedom – The City of Chesapeake will hold its annual event featuring the US Fleet Forces Band, with roving entertainment and food vendors. A fireworks display will take place after the concert. The event is free to the public, but on-site parking costs $5.

City of Elizabeth, CN

Independence Day First Friday ArtWalk – Each month, Elizabeth City celebrates local artwork and hosts a special July 4th Art Walk. Demonstrations by artists, live music, food trucks, fireworks and activities for children will be on the program.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 1, with fireworks set off at 9 p.m. from Waterfront Park.

Market of starred creatorsPeninsula Markets and Sly Clyde Cider House team up for the Makers Market in Hampton. The event will feature over 30 craft vendors, food trucks and live music.

The event will start at 12 p.m. and end at 5 p.m.

isle of wight

Independence Day Celebration – Isle of Wight County Parks and Recreation will celebrate with food vendors, live music and fireworks.

Kill the Devil Hills, CN

5K freedom – The race will include a 5K and a 1/4 mile Fun Run. The race will start and end at Kill Devil Hills Town Hall in front of the Town Hall Memorial.

Manteo, CN

4th of July party – The City of Manteo will celebrate the city center with activities for all ages. The event will include games and activities for children, competitions, free live music and food.

The event will end with a colorful fireworks display after dark.

Fireworks show – The Town of Nags Head and the Nags Head Fishing Pier will hold their annual Independence Day Fireworks Show on the 4th of July. The show starts at 9:25 p.m. and will last approximately 25 minutes. If necessary, a rain date has been set for Tuesday July 5th.

Newport News

stars in the sky – The City of Newport News will celebrate Independence Day with free inflatables for kids, boardwalk entertainment, various vendors and a performance by Tomcats Dixieland Band.

Fireworks will be presented at 9 p.m. by an internationally award-winning fireworks company Pyrotechnic.

The event and parking are free.

Great American Picnic and 4th of July Fireworks – Celebrate Festevents and Norfolk’s 39th Annual American Event with hot dogs, burgers, barbecue and live music from military bands.

The event opens at 5 p.m. on July 4 and the fireworks will begin at 9:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

4th of July Fireworks CruiseAmerican Rover Sailing Cruises invites guests for a special 4th of July cruise with inner harbor views, fireworks and live music from an acoustic guitarist.

The ship will sail from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

103rd Annual 4th of July Patriotic Festival – The Cradock Civic League will celebrate its annual patriotic salute with a parade, USCG President Commander James Cullen, various performances, a cornhole, food trucks and more.

    • 10am. Registration for the parade
    • 10:30 a.m.. Parade – Skateboard, bikes, carts and more
    • 11 a.m. Ceremony – Speaker is USCG Commandant James Cullen and performances by various artists
    • 11:30 a.m. Festival until 3 p.m. – DJs, vendors, food trucks, nonprofits, basketball arcade shooting, obstacle course, corn hole, and fun for kids, dogs, and the whole family

Fireworks Cruise – The Carrie B Showman will show views of fireworks.

The cruise will depart at 7 p.m.

Shaggin 4th of July Celebration – The Breadwine & Blooze Band will play shag stepping beach music. Tidewater Orchestra will follow with patriotic music and fireworks.

Spectacular Stars and Stripes – The annual event returns for another year of fireworks, entertainment, children’s activities and food vendors.

A shuttle will be available as there is no parking on site. Shuttle parking will begin from the following locations:

  • First Baptist Church located at 237 N Main Street
  • Suffolk Municipal Building car park located at 440 Market Street
  • Mills Godwin Courthouse Building located at 150 N Main St

The last shuttle will run at 8:20 p.m. to bring guests to the site before the fireworks begin at 9 p.m. Shuttles will resume after the fireworks end.

Virginia Beach

4th of July Celebration at Mount Trashmore – The City of Virginia Beach will host its annual 4th of July celebration at Mount Trashmore with live music returning this year!

Food and drinks are available for purchase.

Admission is free while limited on-site parking is $10.

Stars and Stripes Celebration at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront – The “Star Spangled” salute returns for another year with multiple live performances, fireworks and fun.

All performances are free and open to the public.

38th Annual Independence Day 5K – The race includes a 5K, 1/4 mile Tot Trot and a virtual 5K. The run supports the YMCA’s annual giving campaign to provide financial assistance for camps, swimming lessons, etc.

Liberty Lights at Colonial Williamsburg – The City of Williamsburg will host a four-day event featuring music, history, auctions, museum tours and more.

Musical performances are in partnership with the CW American Music Concert series and are free and open to the public.

The event will end with a 20-minute fireworks display.

Independence Day celebrations – Yorktown will host various events for July 4, including an 8K, parade and fireworks.

Events start at 8am and last until around 10pm.
