GRAND JUNCTION, Colo .– The Clifton branch of the Mesa County Library is getting their books ready and heading to a new location.
The question that remains is, where will the new library be built?
In 2017, Mesa County Libraries purchased a five-acre property off F Road in Clifton.
Bob Kretschman of Mesa County Libraries says, “We found this land on F Road and are very happy with it. We have done a lot of prep work on this land to prepare it to build.
However, the county proposed a different location closer to schools and residential areas near Rocky Mountain Elementary School, and library staff began to consider the idea.
Kretschman also said, “We are currently in talks with Mesa County to move our library plans to this different site that has been proposed, but it is not a done deal. There are a lot of things that need to happen before this decision is made. “
The county has a few steps to go through before a decision can be made.
Janet Rowland, Mesa County Commissioners, says, “First, we finalize the purchase of the land, and then we’ll do all of the design work. We hope to pave the way perhaps next June and complete it by the end of 2023. “
Kretschman added: “We are planning to build a new library on F Road. Areas better dedicated to children and teenagers. More meeting space.
Currently, construction on F Road for a new Mesa County Library in Clifton is scheduled to begin in March 2022.
