Memorial Day weekend events return despite cold St. Louis temperatures

ST. LOUIS COUNTY – With these chilly temperatures, you wouldn’t guess it’s Memorial Day weekend, but it is. And while life is slowly returning to normal, there’s a lot going on this weekend.

Grant’s Farm resumed operations on Friday May 28. All the equipment in their park is available to customers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week until August 22.nd. They are still social distanced and have other safety guidelines, but masks are not necessary for fully vaccinated guests. Unvaccinated people should wear a mask. Visitors can enjoy all of their familiar favorites such as their streetcar rides, carousel rides, animal shows, goat feeding, Clydesdale stables and more.

To avoid crowd congestion, you must make a mandatory parking reservation online at where you reserve a 30-minute arrival time window between 9 am and 2:30 pm Once inside the park, guests can stay as long as they wish.

In Assumption, volunteers from the Greek Orthodox Church worked hard all day at their annual St. Louis County Greek Feast. There has been a constant flow of customers coming to collect their food.

This is their first Memorial Day event since 2019. Greg Simos, president of the event, said they need to plan for this year’s Greekfest in August. At that point, they decided that a curbside event was the safest option.

They are happy to be back for their biggest annual event and the support has been incredible so far.

“That’s good. Just even for us who find ourselves internally and see each other again. We’re an ethnic church, so it’s a very big community of people who are mostly family. And not being able to get together. seeing and interacting was difficult. It’s great and the response we got from the audience was phenomenal so I guess they missed us too, “said Greg Simos, event president. It is a huge amount of work. All of the food we prepare is homemade here at the church. Every Wednesday our older ladies and gentlemen come and prepare the recipes and start baking months in advance to prepare them. And these are recipes that came with them from Greece, so it’s as authentic as it gets.

Greekfest takes place on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm and Monday until 3:00 pm Customers must order online at where they will select an available pickup time.
